Python escapes Baton Rouge

The Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge was temporarily closed due to a 12-foot albino Burmese python escaping from its enclosure on July 6 at the Blue Zoo Aquarium.

The St. George Fire Department was called in the morning to help find Cara the Python.

The two-day search ended on the morning of July 8 while Cara was in the ducts of the mall’s ceiling.

Harvey Girls wins National Spelling Contest

A 14-year-old girl from Harvey won the Scripps National Spelling Bee held on July 8.

Zaila Vanguard won the contest with the word “Murraya”, which is a word for a type of tree. With a trophy, she won $ 50,000.

The title makes her the first Louisiana winner in competition history and the second African-American to win.

She also holds three world records for dribbling multiple basketballs simultaneously.

The president of LSU offered him a full scholarship over the weekend.

False eyelashes seized at the airport

Thousands of false eyelashes were seized from a DHL shipping terminal at New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, according to US Customs.

Officers withheld a July 6 shipment of “synthetic eyelash samples” for further examination.

The shipment, en route to a beauty store in New Orleans, included four boxes of false eyelashes, totaling 3,000 pairs of eyelashes.

The eyelids are delicate and an allergic reaction, irritation or other eye injury can occur, US Customs said in a statement.

A policeman killed in Doyline

While responding to a call for service on July 9, Constable William “Billy” Collins Jr. was shot and killed.

The fatal shooting occurred in Doyline, a small community east of Shreveport.

Louisiana State Police are investigating.

The rapper remixes his hit to promote vaccination

New Orleans-based rapper Juvenile remixed his huge hit song as a way to promote the COVID-19 vaccine.

He released “Vax That Thang Up”, with artists Mannie Fresh and Mia X.

A music video produced for the promotion features a youth showing off an immunization card. He told Rolling Stone that he hopes to have a positive influence on his community through this collaboration.
