Launched in May (Mental Health Month) through a partnership between the Nashville, TN & Liverpool, United Kingdom councils, the program has already seen more than 732 musicians seek advice (16% of participating songwriters), access pragmatic tools and pro bono advice. Impacting across borders, language, race, musical genres and cultural barriers, this TUFF-founded initiative received 4,862 songs from 4,385 artists. 23 countries are represented, 546 candidates are already receiving advice and 186 others are on board with providers who best meet their personal advice needs.

“Mental illness is the new pandemic. As Covid-19 spread across the globe, we saw connection and community fade from our lives overnight as we had to shelter in place to reduce rates of transmission. What we missed when our day-to-day interactions changed so drastically were the long-term impacts of that change. Mental health practices and equitable access to these therapies are imperative if we are to return to kindness , safety and security. We are so grateful to be able to support these musicians and songwriters through the help of amazing partners. Fortunately, with the additional resources, we are able to extend our timeframe. to hopefully save more lives. And, we can’t thank the artists who stepped up to share their own stories and struggles.” – dr. Vandana Duggal MD, Vice President of TUFF UNITED STATES

The TRTN-L initiative is currently reviewing submissions by August 31 at https://roadtonashville.us/. The top ten finalists will perform live in front of the judges in Nashville at the legendary EXIT/IN on by John Lennon birthday October 9, 2022 and the winner will perform at the famous Liverpool Cavern Club, a gathering place for big names in music, including the Beatles.

Headliners and household names in the country music community weighed in on the importance of TUFF and the mental health initiative to TRTN-L. This particular community has recently suffered the heartbreaking impact of mental illness with the tragic death of the recent Country Music Hall of Fame inductee. Naomi Judd and award-winning songwriter Tom T. Hall.

“The subject of mental illness is front and center all over the world. There’s nothing explainable about fame and being the center of attention. Whether it’s an actor, a musician or a politician, just being famous doesn’t offer protection against mental illness. In fact, fame may be doing the exact opposite, exposing vulnerability as a trap. You can’t let Everyone walk in and you can’t let yourself out. You’re surrounded and yet alone. I have some good friends who accept me for who I’m not just what I do. It makes a huge difference. humanity must approach mental illness with an open heart and mind. Gary Morris

Along with his endorsement, Gary made a generous donation to TUFF to support their increased efforts.

“I didn’t really understand the challenges that come with mental health issues until Covid hit and I found myself dealing with depression and anxiety. It’s really important that we continue to talk about how stress affects so many of us and how important it is to provide everyone with people to talk to and places to go for help.” michelle wright

“Life can certainly be great on its peaks, but it also has its challenges and its valleys along the way, no matter who you are or what you do. No one is left out. we all need and reach out to Talk about the downs can be difficult and vulnerable, but it can also be liberating when you realize that we can all be affected in some way. a conversation about mental health is a must in our world. I fully support and see the beauty in this process. We will all be better for ourselves and for humanity by asking for help when needed. I believe that TRTN-L is perfect for including mental health services for anyone who needs them and that’s a good thing to see!” – Tim RushlowFormerly of Little Texas, currently in The Frontmen
