She noted that brushing helps remove plaque, insisting that two minutes is not enough to do it properly.
Explaining further, she said the teeth have five surfaces that need to be cleaned and need to be done with fluoride toothpaste.
“The first step to proper brushing is making sure you are prepared with the right tools. You will need a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste like Pepsodent ”, said the dentist, as quoted by 3news.
“Lubricate your brush with a small amount of water. Put a small amount of toothpaste on the bristles of the toothbrush. Insert the toothbrush into your mouth at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to your gums and use gentle, short strokes to brush your front teeth.
“Always brush in a circular motion. Brush the outer surfaces of your teeth, making sure you get the back molars and the upper areas of your chewing surfaces.
“Flip the toothbrush over to get the inside surface of your upper front teeth.” Flip it over to get the inside surface of your lower front teeth.
Dr Amarquaye-Bayitse added: “To avoid any problem with your teeth, it is very important to use fluoride toothpaste and a soft bristle brush and remember to change it every 3 months. Also, do well to visit the dentist regularly and avoid sugary foods. Drink more water. Brush with the family.
